It is a hassle to travel to the city from Yew Tee by MRT. The time consumed for travel through Jurong east or woodlands is colossal. I have been taking the MRT for the past year and spent nearly 3 hours for my daily commute to Kallang. Public buses that go to the city are to be taken from Choa chu kang, which mandates travel by MRT or taking the loop service to reach Choa Chu Kang.
The downtown line is a best choice for faster and prompt travel to Bugis. I was looking forward to its opening, but the options to reach Bukit Panjang from Yew Tee were not enticing in terms of the comfort and the travel time. To take the downtown line at Bukit Panjang involves two transfers one at Choa chu kang to the LRT line and the other at Bukit Panjang to the downtown line. There is the newly introduced feeder 979 to Bukit Panjang, which during peak hours is full and may forgo stopping at few stops. The bus passes through 8 bus stops from Yew Tee MRT to reach Bukit Panjang Station. The longer route and peak hour rush are deterrents to taking this service.
When I explored other available options, I was surprised to find convenient and comfortable choices.
Enhanced Bus service 662
This bus plies between Yew Tee and Shenton way in the morning as well as in the evening. It is a City Direct Service that was introduced as a part of the Bus Service Enhancement program. More details of this service can be obtained from City Direct Service
I have tried this service, it is a breeze when the bus is in the AYE, but it is a slow crawl to enter AYE from Jurong driving through Brickland road and Bukit Batok road in the peak morning traffic.
Premium Bus Service 556
The service starts at a later time than 662 and takes the same path as 662. More details of this premium service can be obtained from Premium Bus Service.
I have not travelled on this, but have seen this mini shuttle bus.
